7-Eleven Cares Foundation Donates $5,000 to Boys & Girls Clubs of Contra Costa, Honoring Green Day's Legacy in Pinole

In an event that celebrated both local history and the power of community, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Contra Costa (BGCCC) received a generous $5,000 donation from the 7-Eleven Cares Foundation. This contribution will support BGCCC’s efforts to serve youth at their club locations in Pinole and Martinez, continuing the organization's mission to empower young people with educational and developmental opportunities.

The donation event, held at the iconic Pinole 7-Eleven, had a special significance beyond the charitable gift. This store, immortalized in the lyrics of Green Day, holds a place in the hearts of the band’s members, who grew up in Pinole and often frequented the location. The event also marked the 30th anniversary of Green Day’s groundbreaking album, Dookie.

To commemorate the occasion, Green Day returned to their roots, signing a mural outside the 7-Eleven store. Pinole Mayor Maureen Toms added to the celebration by presenting Green Day the key to the city, recognizing their ongoing connection to the community.

In addition to reflecting on their local origins, Green Day used the occasion to promote their latest venture, Punk Bunny Coffee, blending the spirit of punk rock with the band’s signature flair. Their presence drew fans and community members alike, creating an atmosphere of excitement and nostalgia.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Contra Costa’s Board members and staff were proud to attend the event, thanking both 7-Eleven and Green Day for their continued support of local youth. "This generous donation from the 7-Eleven Cares Foundation will directly impact our ability to provide vital services and enriching experiences for our young members," said Jose Marquez, Executive Director of BGCCC. "We are so grateful to 7-Eleven for their commitment to the Contra Costa community."

The $5,000 donation will help expand BGCCC’s programs in Pinole and Martinez, ensuring that more youth have access to the resources they need to succeed in school and life.
